Ribs

Owings Mills, MD is a small city on the outskirts of Baltimore in the mighty state of Maryland. It’s a great place to enjoy an outdoor adventure with its many fantastic parks, numerous lakes, and outdoor markets to explore. There’s plenty of hiking options, excellent boutique shopping, and a vast array of excellent dining options including some great smoked meats. Here are some of the best barbecue spots in the Owings Mills area.

Up In Smoke

First on the list is one of the epic food trucks in the area that serves up mouth-watering smoked meats that would give KC or Texas a run for their money. The ribs are absolutely amazing but don’t sleep on the pit beef sandwich which is one of the highlights of the menu. The truck is wildly busy, but they do a great job keeping it moving along at a nice clip. Up In Smoke is open all year long.

Jake’s Grill

If you’re driving by, you’ll be reeled in by the tantalizing smell of the smoker that sits out front. You’re in for a treat with Jake’s as they serve up some of the best sandwiches in the land, like their smoked turkey and succulent pulled pork. The portions are enormous, and you won’t be left hungry after your meal. The prices here are very reasonable and they have a loyal fanbase that keeps coming back for the smoky goodness.

Mission BBQ

Mission serves up all the familiar favorites and has a wide variety of scrumptious sauces to slather on your sandwiches. This place really puts Maryland on the map when it comes to smoked meats, and locals rave that it’s more like a southern BBQ joint that’s been transplanted on the east coast. They have a bevy of delicious sides including their famous mac and cheese and yummy caramel bread pudding. The baked beans are also delightful.

Shorty’s Bootleg BBQ

This mobile barbecue baron will show up all over town to bestow his splendid smoked meats to the masses. The food is as good as it gets whether it’s the ribs, pit beef, or a variety of tender pulled meats. The spicy sauces are excellent, and you’ll be sure to make a mess of yourself as you try to conquer the massive plates. Sampling the mac and cheese is a must no matter how much you’ve already eaten.

Andy Nelson’s Southern Pit BBQ

This family has been producing legendary BBQ for the better part of a century. This famous hickory-smoked BBQ joint originated in Memphis but thankfully has taken its show on the road to Maryland. All of the food is mind-blowing and be sure to sample the bird, whether that be the tender turkey or the smoky, charred chicken. Be sure to order a side of their legendary cornbread. This is a can’t-miss spot when you’re in the area.
