Bikers

There are so many amazing bike paths to discover in the Owings Mills, MD area that it’s hard to fit them all in one list! Biking is an excellent way to get outside with the whole family and enjoy the natural world, and it’s also an excellent way to keep fit! So grab your bike and head out there today on one of these amazing trails.

1. Patapsco Valley State Park

Perfect for advanced riders, Patapsco Valley State Park includes well over 170 miles of bike trails to explore, all situated in 16,000 acres of protected land that straddles the Patapsco River. The park is situated due south of Owings Mills, and it takes about 20 minutes to drive there.

The trails here are of the rough and rocky variety, perfect for advanced off-road cyclists looking to test their skills. Those who are really up for a challenge may want to attempt the “Tour de Patapsco”, which links together over 50 miles of the most challenging trails in the valley.

2. Loch Raven Reservoir Biking Trails

The trails around Loch Raven Reservoir are perfect for those seeking a gentle ride through the forest. With mostly level tracks that include only a few steep inclines, yet still offer great views of the reservoir, these trails are suitable for everyone, and include some nice loop routes.

One of the most popular trails in the area is the Seminary Cross Country Tour, which follows a fire road around the southern end of the lake. Coming in at just under 6 miles of trail, it’s a great workout and offers moderately challenging terrain, with a few roots to watch out for.

3. Torrey C. Brown Trail

One of the best trails in the area for those with young children, the Torrey C. Brown Trail follows the route of the old Northern Central Railroad. The trail is an out-and-back route and begins near Ashland, MD before heading north for over 19 miles to the town of Freeland, on the Maryland-Pennsylvania Border, passing through several historic communities along the way.

4. Liberty Reservoir Trails

Located to the west of Owings Mills, the trails at Liberty Reservoir snake around the lakes many coves and inlets and are fairly easy to traverse. They can even connect to the sprawling Patapsco Valley Trail network mentioned above.

One of the best trails here is the Pine Knob Road to Oakland Road Trail, a smooth rolling trail that alternates between fire road and singletrack and follows the lake nearly exactly. There are some great climbs and descents along the route to enjoy. Be aware that there are several wet spots, and the possibility of downed trees so keep your wits about you whilst riding.

These are just a few of the fantastic nearby trails to discover. There are many more out there so grab your bike and get ready for a day in the saddle.
