1. Liberty Reservoir

Covering a surface area of a little over 9,200 acres, Liberty Reservoir is one of the largest bodies of waters in the state of Maryland, as well as a popular spot for boating, fishing, and other water sports. Located just 10 miles west of downtown Owings Mills, this place can be reached in just 15 minutes by car via Lyons mills Road and route MD-26.

Featuring several public boat ramps and fishing piers, Liberty Reservoir is a great place to catch excellent specimens of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, white perch, bluegill, and white crappie. Other popular recreational activities in the areas surrounding the reservoir include hiking, wildlife watching, picnicking, and birding. If you are looking for an easy day trip, Liberty Reservoir is always a great idea.

2. Loch Raven Reservoir Park

Open year-round between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, Lock Raven Reservoir Park is another fantastic destination that welcomes thousands of anglers from all over the region each year. Sitting along the shores of a 1,600-acre reservoir, this nature reserve is located about 16 miles northeast of downtown Owings Mills and can be reached in just 20 minutes by car via route I-695.

Home to healthy populations of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, yellow perch, walleye, crappie, and northern pike, Lock Raven Reservoir offers excellent fishing opportunities. Public boat ramps and boat rental shops can be found along the southern shores, while picnic spots and hiking trails are also available for those wanting to spend some time exploring the beautiful nature of the area.

3. Piney Run Park

Located a little over 15 miles west of Owings Mills, Piney Run Park is a small and quiet nature reserve that offers great fishing opportunities. Sitting along the shores of Piney Run Lake, this place is open year-round between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Some of the fish species you can find here include largemouth bass, redear sunfish, yellow perch, bluegill, black crappie, and channel catfish.
