Trim Levels (Exterior)
The new Niro EV has either steel gray or black exterior trim, depending on the body color. The entry-level trim is the Wind. It comes with 17-inch wheels, tinted rear windows, a power tailgate, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, and a heated windshield. The Wave is the other Niro EV trim. It comes with a power sunroof, power-folding side exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, and satin-accent door handles with black trim on the lower cladding.
Engine (Power)
Power for the Niro EV comes from an electric motor that sends energy to the front wheels and generates 201 horsepower. It uses a 64.8-kWh lithium-ion battery with DC fast charging capability that will charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 45 minutes. The motor has the power to propel the Niro EV from zero to 60 mph in merely 7.1 seconds.
Performance
The Niro EV will go up to 253 miles on a full charge. It has a regenerative braking system the driver can control using steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Pulling on the right paddle will activate three levels of deceleration, while pulling on the left will increase the level of regenerative braking. The SUV's low center of gravity allows for effortless handling.
Interior
The Niro EV has room for five to ride comfortably. It has a modern interior filled with sustainable materials, including recycled wallpaper on the headliner, vegan leather upholstery, and chemical-free interior paint. Heated front seats come standard in the Wind trim. You'll get ventilated front seats, driver's seat memory settings, and a power-adjustable passenger seat in the Wave. The Wave also adds a heated steering wheel.
A 10.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system comes standard. The Wind also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging, integrated navigation, and a six-speaker stereo system. The Wave adds a household-style power outlet and a seven-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system.
Safety Features
Both 2023 Kia Niro EV models have a long list of advanced driver aids. Systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and an intersection collision mitigation system all come standard. The Niro EV also has a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic detection and a blind-spot intervention system that will automatically steer it back into its lane if the driver tries to change lanes when a vehicle is in its blind spot.
The Wave adds to this list of safety systems with an automatic parking system and rear parking sensors. Kia's highway driving assist system is optional for the Wave.
