With sporty good looks, peppy performance, and loads of standard safety features, the 2022 Kia K5 midsize sedan is a great choice for college students or to use as a daily driver. In 2021, the K5 replaced Kia's Optima, and, now in 2022, the K5 is one of the more popular sedans on the market.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Kia K5 comes in five trims to choose from, the LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and the top-tier GT. This slick-looking sedan has a sporty appearance to it with a slim-shaped front grille that blends with cat-eye-shaped LED headlights. The low, dropped fascia adds an extra muscular touch to the K5.
Sculptured body and door panels lead the eye to the rear of the sedan with its sloped back window and straight line of LED taillamps that grace the back of the K5. Express your unique personality with colors such as Passion Red or Wolf Gray. Add the GT-Line Premium Package to get an all gloss-black exterior trim to the GT-Line.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of all five trims, you'll find a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Move up to the GT-Line and above to get a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission for seamless shifting.
Performance
Front-wheel drive comes standard across the 2022 K5 lineup, with the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive on the LXS and GT-Line trims. The Kia K5 handles smoothly with its front MacPherson struts, multilink independent rear suspension system, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Enjoy the easy steering of the K5 with its electric, column-mounted motor-driven power steering system. All trims come with a selectable drive mode system. The all-wheel-drive trims have an additional snow mode.
Interior
Up to five people ride in comfort on the two rows of seats found inside the K5. Premium cloth fabric comes on the lower trims, and as you move up the tiers, you get simulated leather upholstery, power-adjustable climate-controlled seats, driver's seat memory settings, and a heated steering wheel. You'll have plenty of space for supplies with 16 cubic feet of cargo space inside of the K5's trunk.
Kia's infotainment system features an 8-inch touch screen on the LX and the LXS trims and a 10.25-inch touch screen on the GT-Line, EX, and GT trims. The system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Available features found standard on the upper trims include navigation, additional USB ports, a wireless charging device, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium 12-speaker Bose stereo system.
Safety Features
The Kia brand takes safety seriously and all of the 2022 K5 trims come with Kia's Drive Wise safety technology. Key features of this technology include forward-collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking, high- and low-beam headlight assist, and a lane mitigation system. Additional driver-assist features include a blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, smart cruise control, and a parking assist system.
