The Kia Telluride hits showrooms this year with an updated look, so it's sleeker than ever. It also debuts two new options packages at various trim levels: the X-Line and X-Pro. These make existing packages more rugged with improved traction control, better off-roading capabilities, and a more aggressive look. Finally, the cabin gets a refresh with larger displays, and the technology has more enhanced driver-aid features.
The Highlander, by comparison, replaces its former V-6 engine with a turbocharged inline-four. It also adds a couple of new features, but only at the upper trim levels. Kia gives you more bang for your buck in terms of upgrades this year.
Capabilities
The Telluride also outpowers the new Highlander. Toyota's new turbo inline-four engine nets 265 horsepower, while the Kia Telluride's V-6 engine offers 291 horsepower. The Highlander also has no off-road-specific trim level, while the X-Line and X-Pro packages on the Telluride provide enhanced capabilities for campers or trailblazers, from off-road tires to higher ground clearance and enhanced traction control systems.
You can also add these packages on the EX, SX, and SX Prestige trim levels, so even midrange Tellurides can tackle rugged terrain. Finally, Kia nets you standard GPS navigation, parking assistance, and leatherette seating, features that the Highlander makes you pay for.
